About SMRS
Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. (SMRS) opened its first senior living community in Abilene in 1966. The mission was sponsored by the Northwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, and that relationship continues today. For more than four decades, the company has grown significantly and has been dedicated to providing quality housing and services to persons 55 and better in a Christian setting, regardless of race, sex, color, religion or disability. Today the company serves over 2000 residents across Texas, on thirteen campuses in eight cities, and has more growth on the horizon.
Over the last several decades, a commitment to high-quality care and service has led Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. into a position of leadership in long-term care and retirement housing. Older adults today want to remain as independent and self-reliant as possible. For this reason, Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. has developed guiding principles by answering the following:

Through support groups, educational seminars, and resource materials, families and caregivers are equipped with knowledge and understanding.
LOOKING TO THE FUTURE
Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. formed a partnership with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center to create a teaching long-term care community. Located on the Texas Tech University campus, this 120-bed nursing center offers a unique educational opportunity for health care professionals and students, as well as a site for aging-related research.

For over four decades, Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. has been a leader in the long-term care field. Opening our doors in 1966 as a small retirement community in Abilene, we have expanded our services to include residential living apartments and homes, assisted living, skilled nursing care, specialized Alzheimer's care, home care services, pharmacy services, consulting services, and community outreach and educational services.
Currently we offer senior living services on 10 state-of-the-art campuses Sears Methodist Retirement System, Inc. owns in Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, Odessa, and Waco, and a new Continuing Care Retirement Community is currently under development in Tyler.

Desert Haven Retirement Village in Odessa, a HUD 202 low-income housing project

One education and care center:
The Mildred and Shirley L. Garrison Geriatric Education and Care Center, Lubbock, a collaborative effort between SMRS and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, providing long term nursing and Alzheimer’s care, as well as educational opportunities; and a teaching facility for health care professionals and students to encourage interest in the field of geriatrics, and conducting aging-related research, especially in Alzheimer’s disease.
Three Texas State Veterans Homes management contracts managed by Senior Dimensions, Inc. (a for-profit management company) for veterans homes in McAllen, Big Spring and El Paso.
Sears Methodist Foundation: Overseeing the philanthropic activities of all our campuses, including charitable contributions and endowment, to support the mission of the non-profit, faith-based system.
Sears Specialty Services: Offering services that include up to 24-hour care in the home or hospital, assistance for personal needs, home maintenance, respite and transportation.
Sears Methodist Home Health: Offering skilled nursing services, home health aides, and rehabilitation services to residents in our long-term care communities as well as the community at large.
Sears Methodist Hospice: Providing quality, compassionate care for people approaching the end of life’s journey and support for family and friends.
Southwest Therapy Associates: Providing physical, occupational, and speech therapy for older adults at Sears campuses and the community at large in Abilene, Lubbock, and Amarillo.
