A New Way of CaringWesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center is a state-of-the-art campus that specializes in the care of Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias. After careful study and research, and the experience of managing two other Alzheimer's specific campuses within the Sears family of communities, Wesley Woods was developed. One of the predominant philosophies of Wesley Wood is to focus on the abilities--rather than the inabilities--of our residents. Designed to address the special needs of those with Alzheimer's and related dementias, our team of professional caregivers embrace and focus on the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of every resident and is the guiding principle of Wesley Woods. It is the goal of Wesley Woods to be the leader of dementia care in central Texas. As the only certified Alzheimer's Care Center within 150 miles of Waco, we share a commitment to provide services in an atmosphere that helps others have a meaningful quality of life. Staff Training and Support ServicesWesley Woods offers and maintains a proven, unique training program for its staff that far exceeds the requirements by the State of Texas. Recognizing that training is the core element to a quality program, clinical and non-clinical staff are given every opportunity to attend educational seminars, both on and off campus. Staff support services ensure that each caregiver may continue to provide dedicated care to those living at Wesley Woods. A career ladder program also encourages continuing educaiton and improvement of skills. Activity-Focused ProgramsDeveloped around daily living, social interaction, and mental exercise, the activities at Wesley Woods coordinate with the resident's mental and physical abilities. Activities offer the resident the opportunity to make choices, exercise control, and gain a sense of self-esteem in supportive surroundings. For those in more advanced stages of Alzheimer's, activities are simplified but are equally important, offering visual and physical stimulation. Caring for the CaregiverWesley Woods offers support services to assist caregivers in coping with the stress of prolonged involvement with Alzheimer's patients. These services are designed to help caregivers deal with feelings of depression, anger, hopelessness, and other emotions that increase the burdens associated with care. Your loved one's well-being depends directly on your well-being. It is essential that you find ways to care for yourself so that you will not exhaust your own emotional and physical resources. While there are many reasons for feeling fatigued as an Alzheimer's disease caregiver, the most common is not getting enough rest. You may put aside your own needs for rest, friends, and time alone in order to care for your loved one. To continue to cope, you will need to get enough rest and sometimes ot get away from the ill person. (Excerpt from "The 36 Hour Day" by Nancy L. Mace, MA and Peter V. Rabins, MD, MPH) We can offer you flexible, temporary placement of your loved one who suffers with Alzheimer's or age-related dementia. Alzheimer's Resource CenterOur Alzheimer's Resource Center offers a library of books and videotapes to assist in gaining knowledge about the disease process, as well as counseling and referral services to family members and others in the community.
