What is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)? Sears Methodist Retirement System is experienced in providing retirement services and developing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) throughout the state. The concept of a senior living community as a CCRC is one that offers three basic levels of care that are described as follows: independent residential living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care. Independent residential living is provided in executive homes or apartment homes to individuals who need little or no assistance. Assisted Living is provided in an apartment setting for those who require some help with the activities of daily living (e.g., eating, bathing, medication management). Skilled nursing care offers residents access to both short-term and long-term nursing care, if the need should arise. The driving concept behind the CCRC is providing residents with a continuum of care that helps them age comfortably. Within each level of care, services and support are customized to individual needs, offering a truly personalized approach to retirement living.
